Welcome to iBC Online Community.

Iford Baptist Church is a small church on the banks of the river Stour. It has been around since the mid 1930's, but with a fairly new church building which has just celebrated it 10th birthday, a growing congregation, and a heart for the local & online community, the church, like this website is a work in progress - a bit like life really!

Our services are varied touching all age groups within the community and details of services can be found on the calendar - please make sure you select 'services' or 'all' in the list at the bottom of the calendar to view all available entries. The website will shortly be updated with a list of church activities which will be linkable from here.

August is a time when we get many visits in person from holiday makers in the area and it is always great to meet you and hear your testimonies of how God is moving in your town and church. You can find directions to the church here, or just do a search from Goggle as its maps section usually hits the church address spot on!

united we stand, divided we fall - working together for good.iBC is a praying church so we have quite a few missionary prayer letters on our site which are encouraging reading so do take a moment to look there and catch up on what is going on with those working for the Lord abroad.

As you surf these pages and the site we hope that you will feel at home and pop on the Guestbook to leave us a note. The site, like the church, is destined to grow and mature and we pray that we may encourage you in your daily walk with God!

Enjoy, and every blessing!

Advent Candles & Crown. Print

Advent Candles & Crown:

What is the Meaning behind the Advent Candles and Crown?

Advent is a changeable season with the colours of the candles changing and the characters celebrated changeable too. You will find that in High churches and in Catholic churches there is a difference of emphasis on the actual meaning of the five candles but the reason we have the Advent Candles is to lead us up to the Celebration of the Birth of Jesus. The Advent Candles lead us by telling us a story and it is to that end that they can, and should, be changeable.

Imagine yourself back in the old days when people didn't learn how to read and write and churches were only lit by candles. A month before the celebration of Christmas a candle was lit in Church and the story was told of the prophets who foretold the story of the coming Saviour of the world! Each week the story progressed as another candle was lighted and another part of the story revealed starting with the prophets and leading right up to the birth of Jesus when the fifth candle was lit on the morning of Christmas day! The lighted candles would have been a focal point in the dark churches as they lit the area around them and filled the church with light.
